Customised Cargo Asset Management System

Introduction

Aeologic was approached by a logistics company to develop a customised cargo asset management system that would help them track their cargo and assets across various locations. The logistics company was facing several challenges in managing their cargo and assets

Problems:

  1. Difficulty in tracking cargo across various locations.
  2. Inefficient use of assets due to poor planning and management.
  3. Manual record-keeping resulting in errors and delays in data processing.
  4. Lack of real-time updates and notifications on cargo and asset movements.
  5. Security concerns related to cargo and asset theft or loss.

Technology Used

  1. Internet of   Things (IoT):   IoT   devices   and sensors utilized for real-time tracking and monitoring of cargo assets, providing valuable data on location, temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
  2. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID):  RFID tags and readers can be integrated into the system to enable automatic identification, tracking, and management of cargo assets throughout the supply chain.
  3. Barcode Scanning: Barcode scanners and QR code readers can be used to facilitate quick and accurate data capture and asset identification.
  4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML):  AI and ML algorithms can analyze the collected data, identify patterns and trends, and provide valuable insights for optimizing logistics operations and decision- making processes.
  5. Cloud Computing: Cloud-based infrastructure can be employed to store, process, and manage data, ensuring high availability, scalability, and flexibility of the system.
  6. Application Programming Interfaces (APIs): APIs can be used to integrate the cargo asset management system with existing ERP, WMS, and TMS solutions, allowing for seamless data exchange and communication between systems.
  7. GPS and Geofencing: GPS technology can be harnessed for precise location tracking, while geofencing can be employed to create virtual boundaries that trigger alerts or actions when cargo assets enter or exit designated zones.
  8. Mobile Applications: Custom mobile apps can be developed to provide users with real-time access to the cargo asset management system, allowing them to track, monitor, and manage assets on the go.
  9. Data Security   and   Encryption:   Advanced security measures, including data encryption and secure access controls, can be implemented to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

The Solution

After analyzing the logistics company’s requirements and processes, we have developed and implemented a comprehensive cargo asset management system that addressed all the above problems. The system included the following features:

  1. Real-time tracking of cargo and assets using GPS technology, enabling the logistics company to monitor the movement of cargo and assets across various locations and ensure timely delivery.
  2. An asset management module that enabled the logistics company to plan and manage the use of assets efficiently, reducing the need for additional resources and minimizing the risk of asset damage or loss.
  3. An automated record-keeping module that eliminated manual data entry, reducing errors and delays in data processing, and ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  4.  A notification module that sent real- time updates and notifications to logistics company personnel and customers, ensuring transparency and timely information sharing.
  5. A security module that included various security measures such as access control, surveillance, and anti-theft features, reducing the risk of cargo and asset theft or loss.
