Decentralized Ledger for Supply Chain Transparency (Time & Material)

The Challenge

A consortium of high-value goods manufacturers and distributors faced challenges with counterfeit products, lack of provenance verification, and disputes arising from opaque supply chain processes.

Key Objectives

  • Establish an immutable and transparent record of product journey from origin to consumer.
  • Enable secure verification of product authenticity and provenance.
  • Reduce instances of counterfeiting and gray market diversion.
  • Streamline compliance reporting and audits.
  • Enhance trust and collaboration among all supply chain partners.

Our Solution Highlights

We developed a permissioned blockchain solution using Hyperledger Fabric. Physical assets were tokenized, and smart contracts were designed to govern ownership transfers, track critical events (e.g., shipment, customs clearance), and enforce compliance rules. IoT sensors were integrated to provide real-time condition monitoring data (e.g., temperature for cold chain) directly to the blockchain. The project evolved under a Time & Material engagement to adapt to consortium needs.

Client Benefits

  • Drastic reduction in counterfeit incidents for tracked product lines.
  • Enhanced brand trust and consumer confidence through verifiable product authenticity.
  • Simplified and more efficient audit processes due to transparent, immutable records.
  • Faster dispute resolution among supply chain partners.
  • Improved compliance with regulatory requirements for traceability.

Key Challenges & Our Solutions

Challenge:

Ensuring scalability of the blockchain network to handle a high volume of transactions and data from numerous participants.

Our Solution:

Optimized the Hyperledger Fabric network configuration, including endorsement policies and channel design, and utilized off-chain storage (IPFS) for large data files, linking only hashes to the blockchain.

Challenge:

Onboarding diverse supply chain partners with varying levels of technical sophistication onto the blockchain platform.

Our Solution:

Developed user-friendly web and mobile interfaces for interacting with the blockchain, along with comprehensive training programs and support materials for all participants.

Conclusion

The Decentralized Supply Chain Ledger, developed flexibly using a Time & Material approach, provided the consortium with unprecedented transparency and trust in their supply chain.
